I've spent a month each year for the past couple of years working from Queenstown. We've been going for a bit longer so have had the luxury of buying season passes and renting an actual house.
Most of the higher quality holiday houses will have DSL connections (have a look at a friends company http://www.stayhere.co.nz/ ) and failing that the mobile carriers have pretty good mobile internets. 3 Degrees in particular is the cheapest and has coverage throughout Queenstown (but not through Wanaka last time I was there). Queenstown is a brilliant place to have a good bit of working ski time, just don't hurt yourself.
