Thinking back, the two stand-out texts from the early days, and whose
content I recognise shaped much of how I design, are

"Object-oriented software construction" by Bertrand Meyer (get the 2nd
edition)
"Designing object-oriented software" by Rebecca Wirfs-Brock et al

It's interesting that, even though Meyer was a strong-typing advocate, and
I see the sense in the theory of it, I am an advocate of duck-typing.
