Thanks all. I hadn't even thought of providing tests but it does make a lot of sense - thanks Pat, that rspec shared specs idea will work nicely I think!
For now I'm only having to deal with intra-app classes, so it makes things easier. There already is a HTTP API for separate apps to post to when e.g. a lesson is passed. which (so far) has been able to be aggregated without needing to ask the product for any additional info, so just providing decent docs for the API methods has worked so far.
