I've only attended one meetup, but when I was there there was a presentation from a guy from Travis-CI about Travis-CI, and I gave a talk about my project/business, Growstuff. I think the issue is not whether people should be allowed to talk about things they make a living from, but something else. If you (plural, as a group) can articulate what that is, it might be easier to answer the question.
