Without getting into too much detail, those who've met me know that I’m not a developer-by-day - I don’t even work in the software industry. I got into rails with a very-limited knowledge of software development in hopes that, next time I came up with a great app idea, I’d be ready to pounce on it. In my spare time, I put myself through railsforzombies, ruby.railstutorial.org and many-many-many railscasts. Twelve months on, this part time effort has progressed to the point where I kind-of know what I’m doing - haha. A couple months ago, I discovered the RORO meetup and have now been along to two of them, and in the first meeting, I heard about railscamp (which I attended last weekend – woo!). Despite my initial reasons for getting involved with ruby/rails, I've now found a great reason to stick around, an awesome community! I don’t feel as though I’m on-my-own in learning this thing. So with that in mind, I want to say a huge thank you to those of you who organise/sponsor the meetups and railscamps, everyone at my table at railscamp who looked at my screen when my tests were red, those of you who encouraged me to bother with tests, those of you who gave some great talks that inspired me. And perhaps most importantly, a big thank you to everyone who made the new-guy feel included and welcome. RORO, I debated the merits of writing this, but in the end I decided that you needed to hear that you are awesome, and you should keep doing what you’re doing!
