We are currently looking for a full-time mid/senior-level developer to join our small team (http://www.schoolplaces.com.au/about/team) here on-site in Elsternwick, Victoria.
*About School Places:* School Places is a new, unique, web-based marketplace that helps independent schools maximise their revenue and student numbers. By connecting the school with qualified parents online, School Places facilitates applications for last minute vacancies struggling to be filled by traditional enrolment methods. Think “Wotif” or “Webjet” for private schools. We are an early stage start-up with big plans and backing from education and technology sector leaders: - Founding shareholder: Square Peg Capital, founded by Paul Bassat co-founder of SEEK, the world’s largest online employment business. - CEO: Natalie Mactier, whose online credentials include CEO of News Corp’s Kidspot.com.au, and Marketing Manager at SEEK. *What you’ll be doing: * In short - a bit of everything. The fast-paced nature of building a startup combined with the small team means that there is huge opportunity for you to really hone your (already extensive) skills, and wear many different hats, such as: Developer (front-end and backend), designer (UX and visual), product manager, operations, printer repairer, marketing, SEO expert, and even customer support. Reporting directly to the CEO, this would be your opportunity to lead, nurture, and grow a development team as well as mentor and support junior staff. *Our tech stack: * *"You’ve got to start with the customer experience, and work back toward the technology. [Not the other way around.]" * — Steve Jobs It’s important to remember that technology is only there to facilitate us in building an amazing product and delivering value to our customers. Sure, sometimes this means getting to use the newest and shiniest tech, but other times, perhaps firing up Excel and building some pivot tables is the best tool for job. For completeness though, here is a (very non-exhaustive) bulleted list of our current tech stack: - Rails 4.2 - Postgresql/Redis/Memcache - Haml/Sass/CoffeeScript (and a sprinkling of React with ES6) - Jenkins CI We deploy (frequently) to Heroku (with a few AWS services around the edges). *About you:* - 2+ years of commercial experience building and deploying web apps in Rails. - You communicate well in person and in writing. - You’re inquisitive and committed to continual learning. - You can take a rough brief/idea and see it through from conception, development, and deployment with minimal oversight. - Passionate about delivering great user experiences. - You care about the code you write and its maintainability/scalability. - Comfortable deploying and maintaining cloud-based servers. - You will thrive in a start-up environment where you can actively make a difference to both our customers and our business. Here at School Places we care deeply about diversity, so no matter your gender, background, or hair colour, if you think you’re a good fit for the job then we want to hear from you! Competitive base salary commensurate with experience. *How to apply: * Send an email introducing yourself (to [email protected]) and tell us why you’d be a good fit for School Places. Attach your resume and be sure to highlight any past work you’re particularly proud of. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby or Rails Oceania" group.
