The Burnet Institute is looking for a full stack Ruby on Rails developer to join our IT department on-site. We are a non government, not for profit medical research institute located on Commercial Road near the Alfred Hospital.
The institute has a number of existing Ruby on Rails applications which require maintenance/refactoring/rewriting as well a number of new applications planned for the future. You will be the sole developer in the team and you will be given the freedom to conduct UX research, design the applications and execute them in technologies of your choice (centring around Ruby on Rails of course). While you are the only developer in the team, you will still have myself for support and collaboration, as I come from a Ruby on Rails background, although as CIO it is no longer part of my role. Most of what you will be working on I had one part or another in writing so you aren't going to be thrown in the deep end! With a relaxed atmosphere and projects with internal stakeholders this role affords the ability to learn on the job, experiment with different approaches and technologies of your choosing as well as work across everything from concept through to deployment. It would fit someone who is self motivated and has had a few years working in Ruby on Rails and is ready to take their skills to the next level - the role is what you make it! Some of the projects you will be responsible for: - Our external website (http://www.burnet.edu.au) - Campaign landing pages (https://support.burnet.edu.au) - A new Intranet - Booking systems for scientific equipment - Content management systems for the labs - Project management software - Indexing and search software for organising our multimedia library - Support (and mentoring) of scientific tools developed by scientific staff/students Main technologies you need to be familiar with or willing to learn (fairly standard): - Ruby - Ruby on Rails - Creating gems - HTML, CSS/Sass, Javascript, jQuery, Twitter Bootstrap, Bower - MySQL, PostgreSQL - rbenv, chruby, etc - git - Dokku, Capistrano - Lixux system administration - HTML email creation The position is for a one year full time contract with the possibility of extension. Remuneration is ~$85k plus super plus generous salary packaging benefits. If you would like to know more please email me directly at *[email protected] <[email protected]>* with [Job] in the subject.
