Interest'n...
You see, I thought he saw a picture of "Harry" on a broomstick
and he pushed the "holyness" panic button. It's a kids story book.
Boo!
I can say that because I had a stiff learning curve going from
RRangers to the US Navy circa 1970. Mitch Silvers had an even
stiffer learning curve Jan 25th 1968 approching the village
of My Loc on the Chu Viet river. The real "Boogie man" is in
our minds.
I wanted to hide and cry and make the "Bad Camp" go away.
To me, everything I saw, smelled, ate and was told was different
than home. Different, wrong, evil and.. Somehow, I survived..
and graduated. Now I'm a Vet, a family man, and time has made
a change in me.
I'm not trying to gain sympathy, but what was presented me was a
far different "world view" than what my Commanders, Dad and Pastor
could see. When I came to grow up, the gap was wide and I had to
run to catch up. I'm being honest here.. *it streached me. Not
every person I met was "lost" or without faith. There's a lot to
learn that Royal Rangers don't teach... right?
I wish I had been challanged more in a secular setting, because for
all the preaching/sheltering I had recieved.. I held a small town
view of a big world. My integrity rested not on my resume, but on the
virtue I held as a core value and that was being tested... sometimes
*I failed the course.
Instead of trying

I'm not saying to not stand up for personal convictions, but just
saying wait for a time when the challange to your convictions are real.
"Our" view from inside a closed small group may not be able to detect
the real enemy from a phoney one.
Maybe this is the time.. many it's a false alarm...
This is why we need to build the Mental/Social/Physical parts
that make the *spiritual point wise.
It's important to teach the boys to think things through...
To reason things out... to respond firmly out of reason and
not just react.
