What's Important..hummmm
Royal Rangers looks good on paper, and may produce positive results
when healthy. When it is let to run without serious guidence or
thought it is no better than a Christian day care.. When it is taken
as a place for a man to rule and exercise his pre-judgements it
then sometimes becomes a negitive force on the lives of boys, and
should be avoided.
So.. we have a 'framework found in training, and published in
Handbooks to attempt to "Do something unique"... I beleve we
must join.. enlist.. and pledge.. to do something "unique".
This "something" puts the boys in a uniform, and in a small group
of peers, and for good or bad that may be the most lasting effect
on the boys lives. I beleve that Royal Rangers works best when it
begins to lessen the self-centered opinions and increase thinking
about others. This is why I am so strong on the Patrol method.
We learn about ourselves in trying new things out with our hands..
We learn about life by liveing it. The patrol can work to teach
unspoken, priceless wisdom about what works and what don't<G>
In hand with this change of attitude, RR has a program to fill
the gap of a boys questions about "how things should be" with
effective suggestions about what he can do for good. When run
well, it promotes the common good of all with awareness of ones
duty to Christian service and begins the long road to becomeing
a "whole person" active in Body -Mind and *spirit.
Look at the first words of the Ranger Code-
It's not "Alert".. it starts: A Royal Ranger is...
To the degree that "we are" the Code.. we are Royal Rangers!
