1. WTC SUICIDE TERRORISTS LINKED TO ARAFAT
Information leading to the identities of the hijackers and their possible
sponsors continues to be collected by the FBI in the U.S. It is now
assumed that about 50 people were involved in the planning and execution
of the attacks, all of them Arabs from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the Gulf
Emirates. The footprints lead not only to Bin-Laden, but also to Hizbullah
and [Yasser Arafat's PLO faction] Fatah, according to Senator Charles
Grassley of Iowa. He said that he American Justice Department officials
had told him that the terrorists are assumed to have had ties not only with
Bin-Laden, but with "groups like Fatah and Hizbullah," and that they
received extensive help from Arabs living in the United States. (Arutz 7)

2. 73% OF PALESTINIANS SUPPORT SUICIDE ATTACKS AGAINST US
As PMW has been reporting in recent days, the spontaneous Palestinian
celebrations after the horrific attacks in the United States were genuine
expressions of the deep hatred of America, that has been promoted by
Palestinian Authority leadership for years. The following public opinion
poll from last November is another measurable indicator of this hostility:
The Poll results:
"73% of Palestinians support military action against American targets in
the region. Regarding suicide missions against American interests in the
Middle East 73% supported, and 22% opposed, and it is interesting that the
support for attacks against American targets among academics reached
77% compared to 70% among illiterates." (Al Hayat Al Jadida, Nov.11 2000)
The Public opinion Poll was conducted by the Program for Educational
Development of Beir Zet University, in Ramallah in the Palestinian
Authority, and published in the official Palestinian Authority owned daily.

3. PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY'S HATRED OF AMERICA
For years, the Palestinian Authority (PA) has actively promoted hatred
of the United States among its people. The recurring theme: the US is
an imperialist, colonialist usurper of land and human rights, enemy of the
Arab world, killer of Arab children, and supporter of Israel.
Yasser Arafat has repeatedly referred to Saddam Hussein as his "brother"
and has linked an Iraq victory over the US to a Palestinian victory over
Israel.
During a period of US-Iraq tension, the editor of the PA official daily
wrote
that America would pay for its war against Iraq with "45,000 bodies of
American soldiers [who] will return to the US like airmail .The Arab mothers
will not be the only ones crying..." The PA Mufti has called for Allah [god]
to
destroy America and "paint the White House black." [See compendium
below for full quotes and sources.]
This active antipathy to the US espoused and preached by the PA
leadership has created a Palestinian society imbued with hatred toward
America. It is in this atmosphere that Palestinians took to the streets in
spontaneous celebration of the horrific terrorist attacks in New York and
Washington.
Quickly realizing that there could be nothing more odious to television
viewers in democracies than the sight of Palestinian festivities over the
deaths of Americans, the PA took two measures. First, PA Minister of
Information Yasser Abed Rabbo demanded of foreign bureau chiefs that
they cease broadcasting the celebrations, and threatened the lives of their
staff. Second, they orchestrated public displays of sympathy for America.
Photos of Arafat donating blood appeared in the press, alongside photos
of Palestinian children carrying signs (in English) expressing solidarity
with
"fellow" victims of terrorism.
During the weeks prior to the attacks, PMW noticed an increase in the
anti-American vitriol and incitement appearing in the PA press, including
calls to attack the US. The following selections are from 2001, prior to
the
attack. This compilation demonstrates the consistency of Palestinian
ideology.
1. "The suicide bombers of today are the noble successors of their noble
predecessors...the Lebanese suicide bombers, who taught the US Marines
a tough lesson in [Lebanon]... These suicide bombers are the salt of the
earth, the engines of history...They are the most honorable [people] among
us..." [Al Hayat Al Jadida - Official Palestinian Authority daily, Sept. 11,
2001]
2. "[The Palestinians] must harm American interests in the Arab world,
with all possible means, in all places, at all levels, because the United
States does not understand the language of logic and wisdom, but only
the language of interests and force."- (Omar Helm Ghul, Al-Ayyam, Aug.
30, 2001)
3. "The Zionist Movement is an American invention...The American leaders
are nothing but priests, obedient to their Hebrew High Priest ..."
(Al-Ayyam,
Sept. 2, 2001)
4. "Saher Habash, a member of the central committee of [Yasser Arafat's
PLO faction] the Fatah... said that the body goes but the spirit of the
martyrs
lives on. Habash expressed his hope that the Arab and Islamic world will act
against America and Israel... Habash demanded to strike and to threaten the
American interests in the Arab world..."
(Al-Quds, Aug. 30, 2001)
5. "[George] Bush Jr. [who] suffers from a psychological complex in regard
to Arabs in general, whose details we don't know, even though we don't serve
alcohol to his two daughters, and there is no Arab who is involved with
their alcohol addiction or with their pursuit by the US police. "What is
astounding and surprising is to find a series of articles in American
newspapers
by columnists, infected with moral AIDS and. who call on Israel to deal fast
blows to the Palestinians ...
"These writers, who are Charles Krauthammer, William Safire and Michael
Malley [sic] try to portray us as if we are threatening New York and as if
fighting us is an American need and that a good Palestinian is like a good
Indian - dead. This is the culture of the Zionist Lobby that rules even over
the bedrooms of the senior Members of Congress and the White House.
It whips them in the morning and evening for fear lest they awaken from
their
servitude. It castrates them and supplies them with 'Viagra Monica'.
"And the last to judge us in this area is the pathetic scoundrel Thomas
Friedman who called upon NATO to conquer the [West] Bank and Gaza in
order to protect his beloved Israel.
"These examples of beastly writings which surpass Nazism, require that their
authors be tried in an international court, for they are considered inciters
who have committed crimes against humanity...." [Official daily Al-Hayat
Al-
Jadida, August 29, 2001]
6. "[Maher Taher] a member of the political bureau of the Popular Front for
the Liberation of Palestine ... said in a press conference in Damascus: we
say to the Arab nation:
"Hit American interests and threaten them. United States is a fundamental
enemy which takes part and holds responsibility to the elimination of the
Palestinian people and the Palestinian villages. He asked the Arab countries
to take a clear and strict position towards USA, which is the a fundamental
enemy of the Palestinian people and Arab Nation." [Al Hayat Al Jadida Aug.
28, 2001]
7. "...History presents political regimes that were governed by political
and economic greed, and that conquered other lands and peoples with the
intent of robbing and exploiting their resources. Thus did Columbus... who
carried out collective extermination of the original peoples of Latin
America, laying the basis for the Western Colonialism which embraced
Darwin's Theory of Evolution and Natural Selection [Survival of the
Fittest -ed] -theories which presume the technologically primitive nations
to be evolutionary vestiges of the apes...
"...This is the same 'Philosophy' that the Zionist Movement adopted in
Palestine, against the Palestinian people...
"...This is [the essence of] racism itself, for racism stems from
exaggerating a certain race's value as opposed to that of all other races
combined, as Hitler did by raising the banner of Arian blood and the
doctrine of blue blood flowing in the veins.
"...The United States of America and the Zionist State are two identical
cases of historical development. Each of them came into existence by
invasion and mass extermination of the original residents, and [each] still
occupies land belonging to others..." -[Op-ed in PA Official daily, Al-Hayat
Al-Jadida, Sep. 6, 2001]
Anti American sentiment continues to appear in the PA press even after
the attacks. These will be sent out shortly after the translations are
completed. (PMW Palestinian Media Watch)

4. IRAQ SAID TO HAVE FINANCED BOMBINGS
Iraq is believed to have recruited Saudi billionaire fugitive Osama Bin
Laden and his Islamic allies to carry out the suicide attacks around the
United States.
Intelligence sources briefed the Cabinet of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon
on late Tuesday, hours after the catastrophe in New York and Washington.
The sources were quoted as telling the Cabinet that a Middle East
government was probably the sponsor of the attack.
The most likely sponsor for such an attack, the sources said, is Iraq.
The Baghdad regime has long maintained an alliance with Bin Laden and
Islamic groups.
"All the steps lead to him [Bin Laden]," Reuven Paz, a leading expert on
Islamic terrorism, said. "Of all the countries, Iraq seems the most
reasonable [candidate]."
In Baghdad, Iraqi state television appeared to welcome the bombings. The
television said the spate of attacks demonstrated the vulnerability of
the United States. (MENL)

5. QUOTE TO NOTE
"Oh Allah, destroy America, for she is ruled by Zionist Jews... Allah
will paint the White House black! ... The Muslims say to Britain, to
France and to all the infidel nations that Jerusalem is Arab. We shall not
respect anyone else's wishes regarding her. The only relevant party is the
Islamic nation, which will not allow infidel nations to interfere... Allah
shall take revenge on behalf of his prophet against the colonialist settlers
who are sons of monkeys and pigs..." (Excerpts from the Friday sermon
delivered by the PA-appointed "Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine" Sheikh
Ekrima Sabri at the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount on July 11,
1997, broadcast over Voice of Palestine radio)

6. US WOULD BE ATTACKED EVEN IF ISRAEL DID NOT EXIST
Within hours of the devastating attacks against America, supporters
of the Palestinians - including some Jewish pseudo intellectuals - began
their "drop Israel" campaign, arguing that American support for the Jewish
State had made it a target. Saddam Hussein's remarks reported last night on
official Iraqi Television however, make it clear that this is NOT the case.
Support for Israel is just one "crime" in a long laundry list of "crimes"
starting with the bombing of Hiroshima to the exportation of "evil" via
American movies shown around the world.
Israel can pull back to the Green Line - even into the sea - this won't
resolve the grievances that America's radical enemies have against it.
#2 Who IS the enemy America will strike?
The horrific attacks on America this week should serve as a wake up call
as the last remaining moments of the countdown towards nuclear terror tick
off.
Truth be told, it should not really matter if Martians were behind this
devastation. The fact remains that there is an international network of
terror organizations and terror states that must be defeated. Because if
they are not defeated today, their capabilities to wreak havoc on the world
tomorrow will make this week's horror pale in comparison.
I don't mean to understate the danger that Bin Laden represents, but it is
sheer folly to think that the world would be safe if, for example, someone
managed to put a bullet between his eyes while Saddam Hussein
continues unfettered.
#3 Who will fight the enemy?
A critical element in the success of the Bush administration's efforts to
build a "coalition against terror" is if it takes Saddam's message yesterday
to heart. Succumb to the temptation to treat Israel as a pariah state to be
left out of the coalition so as not to offend the sensibilities of the
"moderate" Arabs and the program will quickly turn into a farce.
The truth is that the "moderate" Arab states WILL stand in a coalition with
Israel if they are serious about facing the common enemy. If Egypt is
serious about facing the enemy - an enemy that certainly threatens it as
well - then the most that they need to justify their standing in a coalition
that includes Israel is a CLEAR and unequivocal message from America that
there is no "No Jews" option. And it isn't hard to get this message out. All
President Bush has to do is SAY it. Say that this is a critical battle that
MUST be won and that he expects all those who oppose this threat to the
world to join forces - Americans and Russians, Japanese and Chinese,
Moderate Arabs and Israelis - to defeat this threat to the world.
#4 Has Israel learned the lesson?
If anyone thought that the nightmare unfolding in America would cause Shimon
Peres and the radical left to open their eyes they were mistaken.
Some wonder how the terrorists managed to train for their mission for over a
year in Florida. That's nothing compared to what Israel has allowed to go on
within the heart of the country. America missed the significance of a score
of Arabs taking a civilian flying course. In the new Fatahland there are
tens of thousands of people openly training for war against Israel. Arafat
has smuggled in everything short of a jet fighter and the Oslo blind still
don't get it.
America is a large and strong country. And its size provides it with a
resiliency so that it can shake off the terrible losses it suffered this
week and return to battle.
Israel cannot afford to continue this farce. We cannot afford to let Peres
postpone the inevitable war with the PA by getting yet another meaningless
promise from Arafat. We simply don't have the land mass or the population
to allow us to give Arafat a chance to hit us with his version of Pearl
Harbor.
Let us hope that the coming New Year will be a year that marks the end of
dangerous complacency - a year of truth, a year of freedom, a year that puts
an end to the madness. IMRA (Independent Media Review & Analysis)

7. DO YOU GET IT NOW? (OP-ED NEW YORK TIMES)
It is a question that many Israelis wanted to ask yesterday of America
and the rest of the finger-pointing world. Not in a smart-alecky manner.
Not to say, "We told you so." It was simply a question for those who, at
a safe remove from the terrorism that Israelis face every day, have damned
Israel for taking admittedly harsh measures to keep its citizens alive.
"Suppose I had intelligence reports telling me that someone was going to
hijack a Boeing 757 and crash it into the World Trade Center," an Israeli
official said yesterday. "And suppose I used an M-16 to kill him.
According to the arguments being used against us, I'd be an assassin,
illegally using American weapons."
This official was referring to the international condemnation Israel has
endured for killing certain Palestinians, people accused of not only
masterminding anti-Israel terrorist acts in the past but planning more in
the near future. The American criticism of Israel has been sotto voce.
But it is there. And in this Black September, after the worst act of
terrorism in history, the question arises from Israelis like this official:
Do you get it now?
"We are now going to see a very resolute, and possibly global, approach
to dealing with terrorism," Joseph Alpher, an Israeli strategic analyst,
said by phone from Tel Aviv. As for his own country, he said, "People will
understand with how much reserve we have responded - and after this,
criticism of the response will lower."
That question - do you get it? - came almost instantly to mind yesterday
to me, too, after having just spent two months reporting from Israel. It
was asked on more levels than merely how to deal with those who kill
Americans for having committed the unforgivable sin of being Americans.
You can't avoid the question when, again, as on many occasions while
working in Israel in the first half of the 1990's, you have seen the human
wreckage caused by the suicide bombs that go off with sickening frequency.
You ask it because Jerusalem offers a glimpse of what New York may
become. Some likened the assault on the trade center and the Pentagon
to the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. If the point was that we Americans
may never be the same, the analogy is apt. Jerusalem points the way.
JUST three days ago, I wrote about the fear that now grips Israelis, how
they listen for the sirens, how as the ambulances keep coming, they
reach for cell phones. Frantically, they call to make sure that loved ones
are all right. Often, they cannot get through because so many people are
phoning at the same time. They try to hold the panic at bay.
All of that happened in New York yesterday.
Even without knowing who was behind this monstrous act, you could not
shake off the televised images of crowds of Palestinians - not a handful
of bloodthirsty extremists - chanting "God is great" and joyously handing
out candy in celebration on the streets of Nablus in the West Bank. Same
as when a bomb went off in Jerusalem and killed children and their mothers
in a restaurant.
The funerals for yesterday's victims will, you may be certain, become
national events and, for many, occasions for political statements. Same
as in Jerusalem.
In Israel, there is no such thing as six degrees of separation. In a
country that small, two degrees is more like it. If you don't know a
bombing victim personally, you almost surely know someone who does.
You may safely bet that an extraordinary number of New Yorkers will
have the same relationship to someone whose life was cruelly extinguished
yesterday in Lower Manhattan.
"It's all very personal there, and now it's all very personal here," said
David Harris, executive director of the American Jewish Committee.
More clearly than ever, Americans now understand that they may not
assume any public place is safe. Same as in Jerusalem.
Remember the suicide bomber who killed 15 innocent people at a Sbarro's
pizza outlet in downtown Jerusalem last month? As timing would have it,
that restaurant is supposed to reopen today. No doubt an armed guard will
be posted at the entrance, as one is these days at almost every restaurant
and outdoor cafe in central Jerusalem.
We certainly have no shortage of Sbarro outlets in New York.
Do you get it now? (Copyright 2001 The New York Times)
