Bob,

>First, "Thou shalt not kill" is a commandment God gave to Israel.
>Then God Himself led Israel into war. So, this is a commandment against
>murder, not against war.
Correct, but the emphasis here should be on "God Himself led Israel into
war." A God-commanded war is something else than a war men think necessary.
Can you claim this for the US at this point?

> He is the source of all authority, and he appoints
> civil government for the welfare of its citizens, to protect law-
> abiders and execute justice against the law-breakers (see Rom. 13:1-7).
Correct, but who do you think is the appointed government over Bin Laden,
for example? The US Congress? No, it's the Afghan government, so justice,
according to this principle, should be sought on a legal way through them.

> Sometimes God executes vengeance through military might.
Again, can you claim that God appointed the US to execute HIS vengeance
through military might right now.

> Will innocent people die? Yes. Innocent people have already died
> in the attack on our nation. In war the deaths of innocents is
> unavoidable. It is the awful price of war.
Which is why war should be avoided at all costs. The reason for the war
which is about to start is that you're blaming somebody (let's suppose it
was Bin Laden, but we haven't seen any proofs yet, have we?) for killing
innocent people. You're planning to avenge (sorry, "make justice") this by
killing innocent people yourselves, i.e. committing the same act you're
blaming him for. What makes you any better, then?

Military action could, IMHO, be justified, if ...
1. There is clearly (emphasis: CLEARLY) no way to resolve the situation in
another, legally correct matter. What do you think laws and procedures of
prosecution are for? If anytime somebody gets killed by a foreigner you
would send in the army, the world would be in chaos.
2. If it is clearly proven that the target person/group is guilty of the
crime he/they is/are blamed for.
3. If it is clearly proven that ALL OF the target group are guilty of either
the crime they are blamed for or of purposely supporting it. That means
innocent civil casualties have to be ruled out from the beginning.

Please, rest aware of the fact that (a) there might be Christians in the
other country, too. (b) Even if not, there are many innocent people, who
have as much right to live in peace and happiness as you do, and who could
pray exactly the same prayers you do. Who would be heard? Who would JUSTLY
be heard?

Again, as in my previous posts, I am not trying to take the side of the
terrorists, or of any group in particular. I am just trying to make you
aware of the fact that things might not be as "clear" as some people
perceive them to be.

P.S. We are praying with you for revival in the US and in the rest of the
world.

God bless you,

                  Toph
