It is also contagious. For some years I travelled to and from work on the
bus. My wife had a habit of saying "Thank You" to the bus driver whenever
she got off the bus. I thought it unnecessary as the person was only doing
their job but thought, "What the heck". By the time I stopped travelling on
the bus a number of people were thanking the driver as they got off.
