Just wondering...
many of you have mentioned you outpost's policy on discipline, but I was
wondering how many of your churches have Children's Worker's Policies? I
have only attended Two AofG churches in the last 18 years (so my scope is
limited) and to become a leader of any kind I have had to fill out a
Children's Workers application (amongst other things). In doing so I have to
be ready and agree to follow the terms of their policy and guide lines which
are specifically laid out in the agreement. Both agreements have stated that
I can NEVER be alone with any child at any time and I may NEVER hit/spank or
otherwise physically correct the child. If I did I would be dismissed. I
have however heard of another outpost that does allow an unruly child to be
spanked, but written permission of the parent must be given first (usually
as the boy joins Rangers) and the parent must be notified after the
spanking. An incident of spanking report must also be put on file at the
church office signed by the parent and commander. Both policies help protect
children's workers and churches from being sued. If I'm never alone with a
child I can never be accused of impropriety. If I never spank a child I
cannot be charged with child abuse. If I have written permission upfront I
have a defense. I have agreed to work under our churches rules and
guidelines, if I feel they are wrong I should not have signed the agreement.
This means regardless of how I feel at a given time, I may not react, but
follow guideline policy. For me this works well. Just wondered how many
other churches do this?
I think a written policy and guidelines are a good idea. I'm sure some of
you won't agree. I'm a little nervous posting this after reading through
some of the e-mail, but did feel lead to share.

Bless you all,
Lorraine
