We all know WWJD, but WWYD (What Would You Do) in this situation?

I was headed to work today (Friday), and going my usual route, there is
an off ramp on Westbound I-70 in Denver that exits to Quebec St. As you
come to the end of the off ramp, where it comes to the stop light at the
entersection with Quebec, there are two left turn lanes. I need to turn
right almost immediately after turning left onto Quebec., so I usually
get into the right hand turn lane. This morning was no exception. In
the left hand turn lane, there was an older car at the stop light and
behind him was an airport shuttle buses. These cars were already stopped
at the light as I was coming down the ramp toward the light. I looked to
my left and could see a somewhat shabbily dressed man spit at the drivers
window of the shuttle bus (and he had to spit up about 7 feet to reach
it). I wondered what was going on, and as I came up to the light, I
could see him go back to his "resting spot" near the stoplight and pick
up his cardboard sign. At the top of the sign, which was all I read
before he distracted my attention from it, it read "Homeless Vet".

He then took the sign and walked over right next to the car parked to my
immediate left at the light and held the sign not more than one foot from
the front of the drivers windshield. After about 5 seconds holding it
there he spit on that drivers window (I am guessing because the driver
did not roll down his window and give the man money). At that point the
light turned green and we drove off.

There were no altercations, probably because no one wanted to get out of
the car and get spit on.

As I drove on to work, thoughts ran through my mind about what I would
have done had I been one of the other drivers and the light had stayed
red longer. WWJD? He probably would have gotten out of the car and
blessed the man, hugged him, and risked getting spit on.

WWYD?
