Children: A Big Blessing and A Big Responsibility
by Joyce Meyer

"Train up a child in the way he should go (and in keeping with his individual gift or bent), and when he is old he will not depart from it" (Prov. 22:6).

Children are a blessing from the Lord (Ps. 127:3), but they are also a big responsibility. It is very important that we understand that we are stewards of God's gifts and talents, not owners.

As stewards, we should seek understanding about God's will for our children and train them in that direction. Children must be taught right from wrong, loved unconditionally, and - as they grow up - given freedom to follow their own heart. We are to help our children be all they can be in Christ.

Right, godly correction is vital to proper child development. To correct a child in an unscriptural way is often worse than not to correct them at all.

As parents, our words have a dramatic, and often long-lasting effect on our children. Thus, we must be careful to use our words to build our children up and not to tear them down. We must pray that the Holy Spirit will help us train our children in a godly way - not the world's way - but God's way.

Remember, if you train your children right when they are young, you will reap good fruit later.

Pray this: "Father, give me understanding concerning Your will for my children so that I may train them in that direction. In Jesus' name, Amen."
