Babysitter?
Parents drop their son off on Fri.night or early Sat.morn and come back late Sunday afternoon to pick them back up<G> I talked with the boys about that, and they seemed to feel that their folks sent them so that 'something good might happen... I asked them what was- "*happening.." and got back "Oh..Nothing"<G> Sometimes you see the parents during the meetings on Monday night in the back of the room.. I've asked them what they want to see happen with their boys.. and likewise the answer is: "Well I hope something good happens.." I've asked them if they might help out.. and got a quick- "Well I'd like too, but you know how busy I am.. I'm not sure what the program is or what I could do" It then seemed to me, that both expected "something good to happen" but were somehow distant or removed from the active work of bringing that good thing to life.. I've been around a while and seen many Ranger and Scout meeting's where it seemed "something didn't happen<G>" where the guy at the front of the room was droneing on and on about some boreing trivia that didn't catch my fancy<G> If we were a club.. like a "Garden club" Each meeting might start with Tea and cookies as we talked about fertalizer<G>or Dasies.. Ranger merits are kind of like that... so I guess we are somewhat like a "club!" If we were a group.. We could facilitate projects, go places do things and get something done. HUH! We are a group<G> and we do that! If we were a Sunday School.. we could meet in a cold room back in the fellowship hall for an hour and half and put pictures up on the flannel board as we tell Bible stories and play games<G> "Jesus loves me this I know.. for the Bible tells me so.." Yea.. That's familiar, we do that.. If we were just a "Daycare" we would be valuable to the church by provideing a distraction for kids as their Parents attend a Adult Bible Study.. *That means wed. night is "Family Night" where everyone has somewhere to go, after hamburger helper at home<G> *Cool, I've felt that way<G> Burrrrrrp! But! ..What happens when the boys want something else to happen? How does advancements fit into the equation? How does Adventure fit? How does a uniform fit into that format? *It must be that for something "good" to happen.. We must be "about something good happening" I think we must not just work to provide a planned meeting, but expand to look down the road where we want to travel, explore and arrive<G> We need to bring everyone along who is READY for adventure and can follow the Ranger CODE! I'm just not happy to recive kudo's from pastor for being a great Club president, or a Facilitator, or a Teacher or a fantastic Daycare worker<G> I don't care to impress the head of Men's ministries with my passion.. Who cares who the big boss is! I'm thinking I'm a part of something "Good going on around the World!" I'm expecting my lifestyle to Improve!<G> I'm investing in the future!
