Its the season for a Pinewood Derby Lockin! We will pass out car kits, explain the layout sheets draw erase, draw erase, and more of the same. Then we will photo copy the template then cut out the template and tape it to the block of wood. The boys will then sand and sand and sand some more. Then after all is set and Sr. pinewood derby inspector says go..its off to the paint room where the real mess begins. Primer, sand, primer sand, then paint and sand then paint again...oooo what a fine finish we have going until...ops commander I thought it needed just a bit more paint...as it is dripping off and running down the sides...grin.. out comes the lacquer thinner and a rag and vola we go through the whole process again.
The boys love car crafting.. The commanders love it when it is over with...grin! We will have games, dart shoot, nintendo, play station, ping pong, basket ball. Cut n Chop Certification, Recertification for those boys who are at the end of the line. Then Council fire time. Cookies and bug juice and popcorn. Then a lantern is lit and the boys form a circle and we have a full blown service in a dark gym with the lights out and the lantern flickering. Songs to our Lord and King and a short service and invitation. Then a little time of game playing and lights out. The older boys and commanders work in the shop down in the basement where we have 3 bandsaws, 3 drill presses, table sanders, pad sanders, wet vacs and all the HOT LEAD anyone would want to eat...yum! By the next day at 3pm we will have made almost a hundred cars. With a coat or two of paint. Put them through a speed shop and have 50 boys certified and cards cut again for Cut n Chop. Well anyway that is the plan. It could happen!!! At least it has happened that way for almost 8 years now give or take a learning lesson here or there. The lockin starts at 7pm it is open to Spfd North and Spfd South Sections and we will be READY for anything! If your in the neighborhood stop in and say hi! Oak Grove AOG Outpost 153 is sucking saw dust and reaching boys for Christ! I say this to encourage you! Don't let a year go by where you say we were gonna do that but.... boys don't understand but... Keeping them is hard. It takes work. Go Commanders! Do it for Jesus!
