For those of you who were not able to attend the Australian Camporama
(31/12/01 - 4/1/02) you missed a great camp. It was an intimate affair with
only three hundred boys and girls and their leaders and parents from New
South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Papua and New Guinea,
the USA, Switzerland and New Zealand. The theme of the camp was "Discovery".
There were a vast range of outstanding activities on offer running over six
activity periods during camp. Everything from abseiling and rock climbing
to apple bobbing and "Sylvesters Revenge" (shoor the ducks), from log
throwing and archery to sail making and compass courses. Plus a great New
Years Eve Party complete with Fireworks!
Special thanks to David Newby and Warren Billson for their planning and to
the committees and leaders of outposts around Australia for making these
activities come to life.
But the real reason we were at camp was to provide opportunity for lives to
be changed through the ministery of the word and the Spirit. 23 campers
made first time decisions to follow Jesus at camp. Scores came forward to
seek the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, eagerly wanting to speak in tongues.
God has been so gracious to us. Whereas in previous camps we also saw a
great hunger for deeper things in God, and Baptism in the Spirit, we would
only see one or two begin to speak in tongues. This time - there were only
a few who did not!
God is so good.
As ever in these camps lives were changed. New friendship were forged. New
commitment to serving God were entered into. Boys and girls, men and women,
married and single were all touched. It was truely wonderful seeing entire
families at the alter, seeking God and being touched and minsitered to in
ways that will change their lives.
It was a wonderful time. I wouldn't have missed it for the world!
And it's times like these that one realises the purpose for this ministry.
It isn't about wearing funny clothes. It's not about earning badges or
medals. It's not even about teaching life skills and providing a strong
mentoring environment for our charges. There is nothing wrong with any of
these things. In fact they are all good things.
But this ministry is about providing opportunity for people to come in
contact with God - to provide an opportunity for salvation, to provide an
opportunity for the baptism of the Spirit and a challenge for service. In
essence it's our aim - "to reach, teach and keep for Jesus"
God bless you as you serve in this *vital* ministry.
Your brother,
Victor.

I see a Ranger program in every town in this country. An outpost in every
suburb. I see a program so pervasive that every child in this nation will
either be a Royal Ranger or know someone who is a Royal Ranger.
