The Viking patrol was formed of 6 new scouts, Jan. 2001
At 11 years old, they joined the troop and began the long trail to *1st class with the scout requirements for membership. (*First Class Scout, means just that.. You can't get any "better" than a 1st class person so all basic Scout skills are learned in the trail to 1st class.. the upper ranks, Star-Life-and *Eagle are at your pace and earned individualy by merits earned and service) Uniform- briefly describe it (new scouts may wear parts of the full uniform till makeing Tenderfoot-2nd Class, but should present themselves at their 1st class board of review in full uniform) Handbook- briefly describe how to advance to 1st class and describe the Scout emblem, explain in your words,it's meanings.. Patrol- Explain the traditions of your patrol, yell, sign and flag. Briefly explain the jobs needed inside the patrol.. Scout Spirit- *Join the troop by giveing the Scout sign, and give the Oath and Law a fair shot!<G> 6 boys Luke- Jesse- Tim- Jordan- Kyle and Brandon.. (They are told to get friendly, and become buddies<G>) *IN two weeks is a Scout Troop outing to "Nanich Lodge" on Mt.Hood,Or for innertubeing in the snow and a overnight stay in a heated building. Food will be provided and cooked as a group by the Troop. Transportantion is by cars, leaveing the Church Sat. 8 am. back Sun. 3pm. *Questions in the Patrol? -------------------------- The troop has several older Scouts who work as "Troop Guides" or Instructors.. There is also an Adult patrol adviser, who watches the interaction of the older scouts and the new scouts. (Invisible game reporter<G>) The troop holds instructional features about playing safe in snow, first aid ect. but the real information is passed in the Patrol meeting, that is run for a short time by the older "Troop Guides" who explain the job's of the scouts and answer every question asked.. *In the foyer of the Church is a "New-Scout Parents Meeting" with Scoutmaster and his assistants to explain the troop and it's style.. There is also a gear list and Adult explaination of "Patrol Life" and a scedule of up-comming events for the troop on it's calender. Another usefull item handed to the parents is a "Phone tree" and list of everyone in the Troop, with phone and E-mail listed.. Scoutmaster hands out a "talent sheet" and talks about some jobs that new scout parents can assist with like *Merit Counsilor, Troop Commitee and sitting on a Board of review of the Scouts.. The troop meets on Mon. night 7pm to 8:30 pm at a local churches fellowship hall. This "Church" is not the charter group, that is Columbia Machine Inc. *But let's the Scouts meet there for free. The Troop has zero tents, vehicles, trailers or on-going funding. It does have a Patrol gear collection of boxes for the patrols to use that comes in a tupperwear box and includes: Rain-Dinning fly and poles.. Propane stove and Light Pots-pans-griddle utensils and can opener<G> The 'agreement is- that following each outing, a mamber of the Patrol takes the box home and cleans it.. then returns it next meeting to the Troop "quartermaster" for storage and replenishment as needed.. The patrols are responsible at every outing for feeding them selves from foods they bought and brought! *Unless, by agreement the troop go's togather, like at the Snow Lodge and Adults cook "Royal Ranger" style.. (*We like to cook a couple turkeys with trimmings there<G>) *Questions..? *What if's? *How Comes? More? -=A=- ===== *High MORALE is the Index of effective Leadership. --------------********+********-------------------- Morale raises belief of the Leader in the follower, of the follower in the Leader, of each in themself, and both in the .....cause! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
