Some districts take a very aggressive approach to LTC training. Some do the entire course in a long weekend (3-4 days). Remember, the national guidelines for the LTC calls for (and has for years) 18 hours of classroom instruction, the first aid course, and a training camp-out or day camp, depending on whether you are doing the Standard LTC or the SA/B LTC. Five full Saturdays means you are taking approximately 40 hours for the LTC. . . does this include the first aid and camp-out, or is that in addition to the 40 hours? Or does this include time for them to complete their homework and tests in the class setting? My experience has been that the more you require of leaders to complete the LTC, the smaller the percentage of your class that will actually finish. The LTC only needs to cover the topics that a leader needs to know to be an effective leader in the local church -- in the meetings and on outings and camp-outs. They don't need to know everything about Royal Rangers before they can wear the LMA. Jonathan >You must just be talking about getting a course or two under their belt, >not the >entire LTC.
