Been out of town for a whlie, and haven't had time to stop by 'till now, so I've just been deleting everything last couple weeks. Finally got a minute today to meander by and couldn't help overhearing this conversation. Felt compelled to throw my two cents in where I saw fit:

I "get" what lot's of you are trying to say..
I'd appreciate it if you understood that I've encounterd some
DOMINATION and EXTREAMIST views while sitting in a pew..We do. We all do, and we all have experienced the same thing if we have sat in a pew for any length of time. It is bound to happen, since humans stand facing you behind the pulpit when you are sitting in that pew...it is up to us to decide how these experiences will affect us. Either be sharpened or be dulled. To cry foul and claim victimized status is admission to being defeated by the enemy. It's hard enough for me to walk this straight and narrow way without carrying around a bunch of baggage dumped on me by someone I chose to be victim to. I'd much rather choose to lay it aside, go on, and be a little wiser for it.
At times, I have sat under circumstances similar to what you relate and imagined how much better I would have handled the situation than the person behind the pulpit did... NOT! Fact is, I don't even have what it takes to get up there....so who am I to say?
Much of this happened at the hands of OLD SCHOOL preachers
handing down the effective techniques taught them.. The thing
they depend on is to "Know their audience".. and in the process
of OLD TIME "religion" some of the stuff that went on was 'flesh
and 'showmanship.
*If you travel.. you "perfect" your delivery, your pace and your
ability to watch the audience. *This is NOT a gift of desernment.
*Likewise, If you sit in a pew and "get into" a traveling preacher
don't be surprised if he rises to the occasion<G> *This also
may or may not be a "spiritual moment" I know exactly the type your talking about. Seen 'em before. Pitiful sight, ain't it? Forgot how to depend on the power of God so they resorted to smoke and mirrors. I never know whether to pity 'em or despise 'em, rebuke 'em or curse 'em. Then, I try to put myself in thier shoes, and realize that I have no idea what that is like...
*Some of this is covered in SECTION 5 of the RR LTC.

Yup.. point well taken.
I'd guess you don't have a problem with "Christian Magic or Illiusionists"
"Vantriliquists" and ex-entertainers who used to play with Ozzie Ozborn.
I used to enjoy "testimony time" in Church when you heard the foul
vile things that many fellow christians *USED to do<G> At 12-13 it
put in my mind that I was missing some sport<G> ..and that thought
sent me down to the alter to confess and get saved for the 45th time. Same here, 'cept I went out and did it.
Stump Preachers in the old days were colorful.. *But you wern't
hostage "outdoors" like you can become in a nice white frame church
building. This "take all semons, and let God sort them out is dangerious
the-oler-gy" What's the difference between this theology and the old addage "Eat the hay and spit out the sticks?"
Doc
Personally, my $20 stays in my pocket. On
