Leadership Series
PART 2 Chaplain Jeff Ortner #44

( Subject ) One Reason Why Rangers Has Decrease

There is no such thing as a Christian based ROTC program at any known private Christian campus.  There is no such thing as a military chaplaincy degree within the Assemblies of God colleges.  Furthermore , there isn’t a single A/G University that are teaching the "FULL" programs and ministries our churches can provide. No A/G college is teaching the LTC Royal Ranger program or Missionettes. We wonder "WHY?" we are losing leaders and church ministries through this program. We are asking ourselves "WHY?" that Rangers is at a all time low and that less than half of the outposts across the nation are not rechartering. I can tell you one of the reasons why and point to why we are losing ground in this area.

The reason is our new generation of pastors are graduating without any concept of what Missionettes or Rangers are about.  Many are even graduating not even hearing about what Royal Rangers is.  Then when they take over the reins of leadership in our churches and see a floundering Ranger program . They either ignore the problem or delete the program,   "because if it wasn’t important enough to study in college, then it sure isn’t important to keep in their church."                                                                                                                                   Many leaders do not and will not instill a ministry within their church they are not familiar with.

Over 90 percent of our new leadership are unfamiliar with many of the A/G programs and ministries.  I am a example of this problem after I entered SAGU in 1976-80.  Coming from a Baptist background and having no A/G teaching. I received zero teaching of Royal Rangers and the Missionettes programs.  It was 6 years in full time ministry before I realized how important these programs where accentual to the church as a whole.  I love this ministry and believe is worth every effort we make for it.  I also believe that this new program may make many to turn around and wish they had it in their churches.  But part of the real problem is revamping the thinking in leadership training positions before they get on the field of ministry.  Lets revamp the college concept too. Lets have Royal Ranger full credited hours of study for our new leaders that are about to start their ministry.

We wonder "WHY?" the youth pastor is more like our enemy instead of the chaplain and helper within Royal Rangers. It's all foreign to him and he sees no use in a object of 2 youth groups, one with uniforms and the other without.  He doesn't have any concept of how, why, and what Rangers is all about.  Train him before he gets to your church and he'll be more acceptable to the program and supportive of its goals.

Get the vision in the leaders before they take the helm and then you’ll see and change in each program.

Hope you enjoyed part 1 , part 3 next week
