Reading the Word is like the apple a day that keeps the doctor away. A
Word a day does a lot to keep the devil away, along with right choices,
prayer, fellowship, church services etc.
Kind of reminds me of a devotion that just came to me in
reflection of today. Pat went and bought a directional T. V. antennae.
The problem was, I had to put it up! Well, to make a long story short, I
was using a tripod antennae tower we already had. I put the pole she
bought through the top of the tower and after we got the tower up, had to
climb it to stabilize the tower with guy wires and then raise the pole at
the very top. If never been fond of heights when not much anything is
around me, so I was somewhat scared. You know, the shaking kind of
somewhat scared, and trying not to show it. Pat saw me up there and made
the comment that I really needed a safety belt on. At that point, I
hadn't been to the very top to telescope the poles up and was really
dreading doing so. So, when the time came to do that, I followed her
suggestion and rigged up a belt to wrap around the tower. I was still
shaky, but knew it would be fairly hard to take the big fall with that
belt around me and the tower. Anyway, I finally made it to the top and
did the nerve racking deed, but with surprising confidence! Glory to God!
We often go through a lot of uncertain days in this life,
sometimes scared and full of concern for our well being, reputations,
health etc.. But when we are able to keep our minds on Him and develop
the mind of Christ through His Word, a supernatural confidence builds in
us. We might have to go through uncomfortable situations and
circumstances, but with the armor of God, through faith in the finished
work of Christ on the cross, we can walk in victory we never dreamed was
possible. We can know that God has a belt of righteousness around us and
His leash around whatever might come against us. We can accomplish things
we always thought was out of our reach, to the glory of God. And if we
should fall (we ALL do) , we can make still make it to the mark of our
high callings on this tower of life.
Our help really is in the name of the Lord. (Ps 124:8) Psalm
33:18-22 say's "Behold the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On
those who hope in His mercy, to deliver them from death, and to keep them
alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our
shield. For in our heart we shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted
in His Holy name. Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, just as we hope in
you."
Closing thought: Lets not make our souls wait for the Lord too
long before we feed on His daily manna (Word) Amen?
