Last November 2001 you may remember me mentioning that Josh GMA#3911 and I went down to Sacremento,Cal and "drug" a shell of a '67 Porsche back to Rancho Deluxe..
It was missing engine and tranny and a few other vintage air cooled parts<G> as follows: 1969 Porsche 911 5speed- from Las Vegas.. named "Elvis" 1974 Porsche 914 engine- from Reno.. named "Smok'n Joe" 1972 Fuel injection brain-from E-bay named "Hal" Starter from un-known VW automatic bug/bus- Exhaust from a 1978 VW Bus-homebrewed "cheerybomb"-Free! Fuel Pump from a junk BMW- "U" pull-it Floor pan from old truck body-free! Homemade Wireing from "Shucks Auto Supply" Ignition switch from "farm" truck New fuel lines from stainless Truck brake line.. Motor Mounts fabricated from scrap steel found-Free! *And after climbing under 450 times to check each part for fit<G> I "lit off" the fuel pump waited for the right "chug-alug" sound then energized the Ignition circut, and collapesed the field on the solenoid to enguage the starter.. AND IT SLOWLY CAME TO LIFE! *I began to hoop it up.. jump and shout! >From a dream, to action.. to work.. to fiddleing around.. I didn't know for sure often what I was 'doing<G> Cold steel and a collection of cast off parts came back to life! *"Smok'n Joe" was roar'n! "Elvis" was Turn'n! "Hal" was think'n hard! I had lights flashing, alternator's chargeing, oil being pressured.. Fanbelts twirrling, Airfuel mix being sucked, Cyl's pressureized, and Plugs fireing in order! I felt like Doc Frankenstine! IT's ALIVE! The key was turned.. and it stoped! CLICK! *I turned on the key, and it fired right up! READY FOR ANYTHING! READY FOR ADVENTURE! This old car wasn't a showroom cheery.. It was lost and had to be found, by someone with a dream and a vision. It had to be *moved.. it had to find a home.. and it recieved Tender Loveing Care. Now be sure to know, that old cars are common.. and the normal condition you find them is broken or needing repair<G> What is rare is to find a restorer who would take the time to overlook some faults and make them right.
