I thought I'd run this by yur radar scope of Texas whahoo logic.. eat the hay and kick the bee hive as you desire-
*Say.. a 12 year old GMA Rangerboy joins Boy Scouts in his town to experiance all that Scouting has to offer in outdoor adventure and character development... and also because his RR Outpost ended at 6th grade.
Would it be cool if he could wear an award that held the core values of Royal Rangers and the doctrine of the Assemblies on his Scout uniform?Yeah, it would. But i don't see the need for BSA to recognize the GMA as equal, apart from the fact that many schools and the military consider the eagle scout award as a plus on a resume'. It would be nice for the GMA to be recognized as equal in these cases. But, then my "logic" kicks in, and I realize that the longer I sit around waiting for BSA, the government, and the world to approve my ministry, the longer I'm going to be just sitting around. It just isn't going to happen. This world is at enmity with God.
We in Royal Rangers- say the GMA is equal to the Eagle award, but the boy is going to find that BSA has not agreed to that yet. <G>
In truth.. Royal Rangers does make a case on "paper" of the equality of the two awards, but somehow.. as you point out with the reference to peer pressure and the 1959 General Council vote, may not follow though in practicum to prove that "belief"..
A boy, with good intentions is torn by conflicting loyalties, and called to make needless choices when the best of both worlds is availible and easily facilitated. Now here is a statement that I can say is more true in other cases than it is in this one. As this statement would apply to the choices that all too many young men are forced to make between Rangers and youth, I am in 100% agreement. As it would apply to a young man having to choose between Rangers and Scouts, the values and benefits of two programs are so much alike that I don't believe it is worth losing much sleep over. Each has it's own niche on the market that gives it a plus over the other. Rangers has a Christ centered, evangelical thrust and an independance from government censure, since it does not depend upon government for finances. The scouts have the resources that this financing provides, and I believe that gives scouts a little egde on training and facilitation. Plus, scouts have about fifty years on us. But, consider this: Fifty years from now, when Rangers is ninety years old, at the rate we are going, we will likely surpass the current success of our constituents. If I boast, it is not because we are better, it is to give glory to God for making it happen. Amen.
