Takeing the BULL by the horns- It works for the Troop and didn't for the Outpost. *Here's why- In Scouts.. a Parent is told that they must participate during the year in some form, as event facitator or Leader. Someone on the troop committe is elected treasurer and this promotes self-management and gives real power to the Parents. Scout troops are Democratic for the most part<G> (Vs. Top-down domination theology) A Cub Pack or Troop is less inclined to carry "dead-beats" be it boys or parents. You can't just "attend" without participation. Doing 'something worthwhile, is 'jes part of the bargin in being a Scouter, and the boy's feel good knowing the folks are behind the sceens.. hosting events and camps is in the hands of the parent committe and not the chartering organization. That's BSA- ..so what<G> *Reluctently, when as a RRanger leader I attempted to start a simular parent support orginization, I was met with blank looks.. and the comment that they brought their boys to Rangers to *avoid parent participation... It went so far as to infer that *if they "had" to do something, then they'd pull the boy for Uth! I tell you right here is where *Ranger spirit lives or dies.. The BOYS know what is cool and what ain't.. When I turned for help to NW Dist. it was clear that no-one had a up and running Parent-Commander Association. Nuts and Bolts- Funding for our RR Outpost had to pass thru the Childrens dept of the church for approvial even if we had held a fund raiser for Royal Rangers. The Church wanted all things equal- Sunday School-Missionets and RRangers. Without control of our funding by a Parent-Treasurer, the asscoiation seemed pointless as it was easy to dismiss responsibility for the survival and health of our program to the greater oversight of the Chartering institution. The good Idea died on the table- -=A=- > _______ > > "Treat others the same way you want them to treat you." > -- Luke 6:31 (NASB95) > > "Do to others as you would have them do to you." > -- Luke 6:31 (NIV) > > List host: http://eBible.org/mpj/ List info: > http://RangerNet.org/faq.htm > > To unsubscribe, send "unsubscribe rangernet" to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > or visit http://rangernet.org/subscribe.htm ===== *High MORALE is the Index of effective Leadership. --------------********+********-------------------- Morale raises belief of the Leader in the follower, of the follower in the Leader, of each in themself, and both in the .....cause! __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
