*Phone rang at Rancho-deluxe

"Hey Cooter- guess who?<G>"

It was Pastor Chet "Soar'nEagle" McVey of NW Dist. Marcus Whitman
Chapter. He called to enquire about "spiritual ediqute" in leading
Prayer at a BOY SCOUT EAGLE COURT.

*It seemes a former GMA in his Outpost had joined Scouts, and now
was setting up his "Eagle Honor Court" and asked Pastor Chet to be
there and speek.

(Chet.. in researching FCF had discovered he was
part "Lakota" and that had led him to join a AoG Indian church in
the Olympic forest area of Washington state. In adopting his Lakota
heritage to FCF he had hit some hard bumps in the road, camping full
time with a Tipi and growing out a Lakota ponytail and packing a
skin drum and prayer wheel.)

"What I want to know is what can't I do with a Scout service?"

Cdr.Jen told him that a Scout Eagle court was about the individual
Scout and he could invite anyone, and in inviteing "Soar'nEagle" to
speek.. Pastor Chet was free to preach<G>

"Can I bring my Drum?"

Yes, said Cdr.Jen.. Drums and Indian dress are associated with
Scouts via "Order of the Arrow" and historic links to Indian craft
and cerimonies<G>

"Can I Name Jesus as Lord?"

ABSOLUTELY! *You are a Christian.. your faith is real and alive.
Scouts pledge respect for your faith, and are likely Christian's
themselves.

The conversation went on for almost an hour-

"Pastor Chet then shared that NW Dist. had turned him away and
told him to leave the recent RangerCamp, and chastised him as
a "Heritic" for embraceing his ethnic heritage and culture..

I guess he had reviewed his GMA's scout handbook and found the
lists of Community service hours and reviewed his Eagle project
with hungry eyes...

"I'm beginning to see that perhaps I have suffered from some kind
of brainwashing, hearing Royal Rangers speek of Scouting and the
Eagle Rank.. *I know, this boy had the GMA, and as much as he was
told it equaled the Eagle... *He felt. he deserved the respect granted
by name recognition in public to the Eagle.. so he earned it free
and clear-"

We began to laugh and cry on the phone..

*This story was becomeing all too familiar<G>

Here was a Ranger intimidated to speek before a Scout gathering,
because He knew what the general format might be *IF a SCOUT spoke
out at a Ranger event!

Again, I felt my BRAIN melt<G> *Rangernet posts came back like a flood..

Royal Rangers may agree with a scouts "duty" to GOD.. but do not embrace
an ethic that hold's *respect for others beliefs, in matters of culture
or faith... or civil rights.

*There is another road-

To release control of Royal Rangers and allow it to evolve into an
expression of love to a generation of youth, to join with others of
kindred faith in common cause.
