I don't see why not. As they say - separate the church and the state. And many people do that in their private lives all the time.

Consider too, that you do not have to agree 100% with the party platform or ideology to be a member of the party.

Some people are a lot more pragmatic about how they vote and it has nothing to do with political beliefs. Look at California! The people who voted for Governor Gray Davis don't want their gravy train to stop. Sure, he's an unethical, money-grubbing crook, but he pushes all the liberal give-the-money-away-for-no-work programs and as long they can keep getting their money if he's in office, they will vote for him.
