*Story time-<G>

Portland winter be'n what it is...
*and me being who I am<G>

I discovered that quality Basque berets are built for the
"Outdoor" life, pack easy and keep the dome warm and dry<G>

My first one was picked up cheap at a thrift store as a FCF
mak'ns for a snappy trapper hat.. Then last year I wore it
up on Mount Hood in the snow, and kept wear'n it around town.

I sort of adopted it<G>

That's when I found that not all beret's are the same<G>

There's the Military "Bancroft" style like NTC and Rangers
where with the little string in the back..

There's ladies Beret's that are floppy and soft..

Then there's the real deal.

A Lined with silk, leather sweatband, labled Impermeible
"Basque Beret" ...clearly the top of the line<G> made in
the southern region of France along the mountians with Spain.

Yah know- where Gen.Chuck Yeager was shot down in his P51 Mustang!

This style beret is mostly Noir or Black for gentalman's
wear and carries the distintive top-knot<G>

This little device never crosses my mind as being anything
but fashion.. *untill I began to wear one all day<G>

As you work.. you heat.. and often you pull back the beret to
air out the forehead.

(*Some of Y'all need to air out yur heads more<G>)

*When that duty is done.. you re-adjust the Beret to the desired
cockyness or "style" you wish to effect-

Pull'n back, gives you the sheep hearder look or Commie revolutionary
ala Che'Guevara..
Over to one side is the traditional "Artist in Paris" look<G>
Straight forward, is the British bulldog rain dodger look-
give'n out the "Vibe": "Here's comes a character!"

Of course.. all styles are complimented by a big bush of wild
hair comming out from under the beret<G>

*To make a long story longer-
-----------------------------

Cheap beret's wear out.. Good ones don't..
The process of makeing a quality beret is Old World..

The wool is wetted and shrunk, died and treated so that the
Beret is impervious to rain, heat and sun..

Like a fine Cowboy hat.. you can feel "something" about it..

I answered an ad on the internet for a Beret..
---------------------------------------------

Then: came this to my E-mail box!

Bien sur~
le quel colur et le quel nom?
Pas du problem..

Interesting-!!!

Gunter knows I translate Dutch sur gut!
*So the first line was no Problem! "Bean sir!"

The next line gave me some trouble-
But I figured they wanted to "Par-ley Voo"<G>

*So I answered'em up!

Oui! Howdy-do!

Yahgottah uno mighty fine Basque Beret in Noir?
I'll have one please.. *Make it BIG!
