Thanks.
Sounds like I should have been there.

First.. Raiders must have been abducted by UFO's!

Next-

Camp Baldwin is 13 miles uphill from Dufer Oregon on
the old "Barlow Trail" formed by emagrating pioneer wagons
that faced a choice of rafting the Columbia River or
takeing the worse road on the entire oregon trail over
Mt.Hood.

A unique change in flora exists on the east side of the
Cascades vs. the wetter west side.. and in the area of
Camp Baldwin there is a "blend" of Pine and Fir..

I'm allways impressed by the beauty of the changeing Columbia gorge as we drive east at 70 mph..

Of the Troop of 80 scouts.. we fielded 45 boys and 15
Adults. The snow reminded me of California style snow..

A top layer of melted ice with crunchy "corn" under..
and bare patches under trees of ground..

The "Shelter" was just that.. a cement floor with rock
fireplace.. glassed in but not insolated or finnished.

We built up the fire all weekend and never got the floor
dry<G> Josh GMA#3911 and myself -=A=- manned the mops..

Dinner was prepared by adult staff to encourage snow play
and conserve fuel and resources in the confined space.

Chili-Dogs chips w/small salad
French toast with lil'smokies
Deli-sandwich w/chips Sun. lunch
Juice
water
Cocoa
Coffee

*Cost per head $10

Everything was packed in a half mile by backpack and sled.
*Everything was hauled out by backpack and sled.

Snow caves were made, sled runs built and wore out..
Hikeing trips by snow shoe and X-C ski's around the camp.

GMA#3911 stood loose guard as a trained Lifeguard over the
thinly iced over lake.. His objective was to faciltate a
rescue of boys in a way that his leadership and quick action
would win additional admission points to University!

Lucky, his services were not needed!<G>
AS PREDICTED.. Cdr.Jen and I spent a quiet night on the snow
in our matching BLUE MOOSE bags<G> ..no problem<G>

The Troop was motivated to leave following a mistake in my judgement,
when i removed my rotten wool liners to my Canada pack boots and burned them in the fireplace!

*I was charged with "blowing a hole in the O-zone"

I pleaded "No-contest" and asked for mercy as I could not
stand my stinky feet myself! I was in trouble<G> BIG TROUBLE!

However, I must report that the situation was so funny to me..
that I allmost choked from laughing so hard, and I had not had
a good laugh for many moons<G> *oh the guilt I felt!

Trip back was rainy and beautiful..

Next time:

Folding sling chair and a book
Slippers with soles<G>
New Liners for old boots!
