Last night the Troop broke into three units for a round robin 3 station demonstration on the topics of:
1. Back country cooking 2. Cleaning and Hygene 3. Meal planning/shopping Station #2 cleaning was led by 16 year old Ryne.. and one senior patrol leader.. in an alcove out the back of the school gym. I noticed a bit of "sound" comming from back there, and entered to stand against the back wall.. The Task of Assist.Scoutmaster seems to be that- *I absorb sound. In a boy led group you can be sure that the boys are watching the Adults like hawks<G> Many are not quite sure what we are "about" as we come from the ranks of the Dad patrol but wear the uniform. One boy when I entered.. was winning friends by sitting in a trash can deep to this head and dangleing knees.. *I looked over.. pointed and he poped out and took a seat<G> Two brothers were playing pinch yah till it hurts.. *A "glare" was all it took, with a susstained gaze.. At the end of the last presentation, Ryne said to me: "Thanks Mr.Wheeler, I couldn't have done it that well without you" Amazeingly, *I hadn't ..said a word!
