How can you keep a gun in a suburban home when having a gun in the home makes it nearly three times more likely that you or someone you care about will be murdered by a family member or intimate partner

Are you aware that nearly 30,000 homicides were firearm related in 2000 in the USA?
And that there were almost 120,000 non-fatal firearm assults in the same year?

Victor,

The American ownership of guns comes from a single sentence.  It explains everything, in simple words.

Second Ammendment to the Constitution of the United States of America:
A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed

Lets just look through what exactly in those numbers.  And a quick comparison to another high number of deaths in the US. First get rid of homocides, and use fatalities.  Homocide means that the death occured during the commision on a crime, or the person was murdered on purpose.

In 2000, the last year firearms related FATALITIES were collected:
28,663 -     number of firearms fatalities.
776 -          accidental discharge
16,586 -     suicide
10,801 -     Homocide ("assault by discharge of a firearm")
230 -          undetermined intent
270 -          police vrs criminal - legal internvention

In 2000 the numbers of trafic deaths were even higher.  2002 numbers will be held in parenthesis if you would rather compare to those.

41,821 (42,821) - Number of fatalities from motor vehichle accidents
16,653 (17,419) - Number of fatalities from motor vehichle accidents with alchohol involved.

In comparing numbers and facts, the actual number of firearm related HOMICIDES is less then the number of people killed in cars due to alchohol being involved on either side.  There are no releases of cause of accidents to compare with the data with firearms, unfortunatly.

The maker of "Bowling for Columbine" is a liar.  He staged parts of his movie on scripts to increase the shock value.  He would go into stores days in advance and set up the information needed to buy the gun and get the background check.  He would then send the actors in to pick up the gun, and never show the fact a true background check had been done. He made up facts where the real ones wouldn't fit his story as America and the Gun God.  He is a liar, and "Bowling for Columbine"  is a comedy of errors and lies, not a documentary.

Only one nation has ever claimed to have taken all the weapons out of the hands of the civilian population.  That was in the early 1940's.  The nation was a unified Germany.  The man was Hitler.  That in itself should scare you.
