Here's the facts.. You can't advance in Boy Scouts at T328 without being asked about your faith in God. You are asked to stand before a board of adults at every rank advancement. Your wide range of experiances in scouting is reviewed not to question your knoledge but to allow you to share with others where you are at in understanding.
At Tylers Tenderfoot to 1st Class review, he shared that God to him was "Mother Nature" or the natural world. The "board" was not shocked.. but questioned him as to how that decision could require him to do his "duty" to God? Tyler 12 thought about it.. The "board" did too.. and went to Tylers dad to ask what was up with the family. Dad said: "Well.. I was so bombarded with religion as a boy that I wanted my son to find out the truth, whatever it is on his own" That Summer camp was held at Camp Pioneer in the Oregon cascades. Tyler attended along with T328 of 60 fellow scouts.. The first morning found the Camp chaplan singing a song of Christian praise to the riseing sun over the camp lake. At the Camp orientation, the Chaplan invited all to come and share a game of chess with him under his big bug free netted tent on the main trail to the chow hall<G> "Just come and show me your moves.. and feel free to talk about anything" Tyler watched this man, and shortly became a regular visitor<G> *I guess he talked with the chaplan about "Mother Nature" or "Gia" science but I don't know the conversation as it was privet and respectfull of Tyler and his young mind. All I know is that later at dinner.. the prayer was delivered by Tyler Broadwater.. I went to talk with the Chaplan and play a game of chess myself<G> This was one very wise human being! The guy ministered to me.. just like I am atempting to do with you<G> It was easy going.. Last night was Tylers board of review for BSA Star rank.. "So Tyler can you tell the board what duty to God means?" "Sure.. That's easy. I discovered Jesus Christ as my savior. Jesus is the son of God who came to earth to make a way for us to have fellowship with the Father God. My duty is to be in faith with that promise and to share it when possible. Because of Scouts, I began to want to know more about God. A friend invited me to his church and I went.. and now my family goes each sunday<G> It surprised me to be asked about God.. I now see that I didn't have an answer on my own, I had to find God!
