Sounds like a great time. I and my son are going backpacking with a boy Scout Troop that my son's friend is a member of this weekend. I attended a Scout Meeting tonight and watched as they went through their opening, announcements etc. It was mostly all boy lead and handled with a few corrections or questions directed at the troop leader. All the boys had on a Kaki Shirt and patches a group of about 30 I would approximate.
It was very similar to one of our openings. A main difference was it was boy ran. The leaders only spoke when something needed handed out or followed up on. There calendar was very active. They did have the same age old problems/opportunities.. fill out the duty rosters, assign the cooks, etc. During pledges there wording was a little different but pretty much the same game. The boys did break off into a separate room and plan out their menus and assign jobs. The leader did say if the boys didn't start bringing their own paper towels, toilet paper..etc. he was going to start selling it by the sheet...GRIN! I went over the topo map of where we were going and details that needed worked out. Should be fun.
