Gunter is right-on.. *You check all systems before hand on a adventure run..
I was "polite-kind and thoughtful" all Christmas day and even hosted the In-laws to a fine dinner.. *But on my mind was my road trip to Spokane,Washington the next day for a $100 1961 VW bug... I re-wired the trailer lights and shifted them back to the fenders.. added a skid plate on the center beam for exiting steep gas station aprons.. and even~ noticed a small wobble in the right wheel bearing. *Zip came off the hub cap and I pulled the "cotter" pin to adjust up the bearning nut. *Still a wobble! and close inspection showed a crack in the welded joint between the axel and spindel... This- I asked *Josh GMA 3911 to "weld" up with the Miller Mig (He normaly is a better welder than me) We fueled, added lunch and sleeping bags and hit the road at 4:30 am to make Spokane around noon, load out and come home same day. Spokane is 350 miles east from Portland,Or At 5am as we entered the Columbia River "gorge" it was freezing and we had "Black Ice" on the road.. As the last of town fell away from the rear mirror, we were playing some good road music and settleing in for a good trip.. *Along the way.. I allawys look back in the mirror to watch the trailer's marker light on the road bed.. Suddenly! a slight fishtail began- and when I looked in that mirror a shower of steel sparks lit up the road! TO BE CONTINURED!
