Yes.. and in practical application it is redundent- Scouts of T328 have used the Patrol method for the 12 years the troop has existed.. *I suspect Cdr.Rich Marriot would find it simular to his scout experiance<G> *Allow me to explain.. 1. To "advance" a scout must hold a position in the troop (6mo's to a year) 2. We hold a weekend camp for traning.. Adult leaders instruct on each positions duties. But also the scout has had practical experiance watching others in the job before him succeed or fail. 3. Everyone then joins in "Team Building" motivational games to create the format for SPL to "feel his resources" and create a practical style or format for true Leadership.. In the past we have had boys deligate duties, and also Lead solo in top-down format. Our current SPL is obsessive-compulsive<G> and smartly follows the signals of Scoutmaster to a tee.. (*I personaly enjoy the SPL who does his own thing, and shows color) 4. Scouts who do not hold a position are made aware that their duty is to prepare to lead, and advance in rank as "members/followers" All this training sometimes seems to go right out the roof after a few meetings and events, and a more pratical "pecking order" starts when boys "ping" and raise an issue with lack of leadership.. Then- the Training switches to a sort of "High Standard" to live up too, and way post of accountibility. Going into a leadership position is allways different than "doing the task" especialy when no one seems to be looking or "care"... *This "Looking and Careing" is where Adult Leaders *shine.. Scoutmaster never gives up on a boy. He'll call him to a review, talk with him and go over the issues and offer constructive encouragement<G> *The true goal is all of this process is NOT to have things run without a hitch.. *But to build insight, virtue and eventual Character in the Scout. This ebb and flow of communication is the core or soul of Troop328. As a Scout you are known.. and hold a duty/job/task that is a "struggle".. and allows others to share in that unique person you are. Later- Boys 17+ do not attend for the events,games/jokes or process- (altho they may enjoy the fellowship) They remain faithful because of Honor, and the earned respect given them in younger formulative days<G> *When I was a Royal Ranger.. this was my experiance, and it changed me for life. *When I became a Royal Ranger leader this was my desire~ and what I worked for.. and the jury is still out on that effort. I didn't just want a preaching pulpet, or a para-military group. During the "Great Ice Storm" *i watched the DVD "Castaway" for the 4th time<G> Tom Hanks at the end gives some beautiful thoughts about the topic of hope and dealing with loss.. He had been lost to the world for 4 years.. "You never know what tomorrows tide will bring, so you just keep going, and one day it brought me a sail... and I'm so glad I had that daydream hope on the island, even tho I've lost her again all over... But now I know what I have to do.. I have to breath, and trust in the comming tide.." *Yes, he might have called on the Lord God for deliverence and that would yeild solice.. But he also had to survive in the physical, mental, social and spirit.. His trial taught him something... Ramble on! -=A=- ===== *High MORALE is the Index of effective Leadership. --------------********+********-------------------- Morale raises belief of the Leader in the follower, of the follower in the Leader, of each in themself, and both in the .....cause! __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
