Hey All,

Ever thought of just using a phpbb bulletin board? It takes care of all of
this for you , is accessible from anywhere, you have to register to use it
and it can automatically put that picture there with your post on the same
thread. Personally, I think Rangernet would advance tremendously from the
use of this because you can upload vegemite... oops, I mean pictures to it,
have a moderator control set up and the ability to have inappropriate posts
deleted. Each person can fill out their profile and put what ever
information in it they want, It has a way for private back channel instant
messaging and plenty of room to grow. You can divide it of by section lets
say you want to have it broken down by age groups you can do that and the
course of the discussion can stay there in that section, let's say you want
to have a general discussion, you can do that too. The ability to upload
files right to it for widest dissemination is just a phenomenal boon. You
don't have to worry about so and so using a MAC or a PC. Each time somebody
makes a post on a board like this it automatically can post a picture of you
called an avatar so that it puts your post next to your name on every post.
The administrator can send out mass emails to the whole group for important
announcements and people are afforded the option to participate on what ever
thread they want as opposed to everybody just getting the thread whether
they like that thread or not.
I just think this bulleting board that I am mentioning here might just be
the way to go because it has so much potential and room for growth. People
can be appointed to moderate certain forums and it also provides a way for
you to input your information if you are using any of the Instant massager
programs like AIM, ICQ, MSN, or Yahoo
You can just upload so much information to it and expand the online-cyber
campfire and fellowship by leaps and bounds.
Ranger net has a lot of people signed up on it that don't usually
participate for one reason or another like maybe they feel that we sometimes
have a lot of silliness going on here or our "debates" can get a little
heated and off topic or something.
I just think that there is just so much room for growth. Rangernet has been
around for a very long time now, and I had just wanted to suggest that maybe
perhaps it's time to take it to the next level. What would you give for the
ability to have a moderator moderate a post that is out of control and
getting everyone upset? Posts like that can be struck at a moment's notice
and they won't have to be indexed by the major search engines.
An example of one, I'll share mine for my Disc Jockey Service ... Angel
Flight Entertainment http://www.angelflightdj.com/forum The portal page
lists the recent topics, tells you whose online while you are using the
system, provides for special announcements and even gives a calendar
function for upcoming events and what the most recent topics are. These are
so inexpensive to do too. I pay $7.00 a month for mine, that includes my web
hosting and I set it all up for a grand total of $15.00 It was $15.00 set up
fee and is maintained for $7.00 a month. Anyone can use it regardless of
which operating system they use. It can be password protected so you can log
into it with your own password. And it also keeps track of birthdays.
Many of the Ranger Commanders I used to associate with would always tell
me to work smarter, not harder. I just see this as a way of doing just
that. Would a small cost like $7.00 a month be too much for anyone to
handle? All it needs to maintain it is a it's own bank account that would be
billed monthly through a Paypal transaction. Those of us who use this list,
I'm sure would gladly give something toward the ability to continue using
it. And it I believe that it would perpetuate itself. It wouldn't be
mandatory to give something to it but there if somebody wants to contribute
to the ongoing ministry of it. The ability to post photos right on the board
would be so sweet! I could potentially have this set up within about a
week's time if you would like to do it. I'll even take care of the set up
fees. SO I put this out there, To ask everyone what they think? Should we
update the cyber-campfire as they have updated the program? I just so much
opportunity for growth. The type board that this is called is phpbb. It
maintains an SQL type of database. It can be customized to handle everything
that Mark has asked for below in the memberlist/profile section of it. We
wouldn't have to change our already existing rules or anything.

Iron Mike
