Jim, Just had our Divisional Day Camp ( a division makes up 1/4 of our District) this last weekend. Normally average between 40 and 60 boys. This weekend we had 18.
Cause - First the weather. Expected rain all day. It had rained the night before and in the morning. God held it off long enough to get the outdoor events in. Isn't He good! To bad the rest of the outpost's didn't trust Him to provide the way for this camp to come off. Second - Commander / Parent apathy. As is mentioned in another email, there is so much going on that it becomes hard to choose what to do. Personally I could have chosen to go to our Blacksmith Assocation's annual event. But, I know where God wanted me to be. What to do? Make the event so appealling that all Rangers will want to come or they will feel that they really missed out. Help the commanders / parents by giving them an alternative (Plan B) if the weather does not look like it wants to cooperate (like a large indoor area to conduct the camp). Stay consistant in excellence. From venue, to events, to prizes, to date offered. As for District Camp, we have a new hurdle. Our school districts are paying the boys to attend Summer School, but only if they have perfect attendance do they receive the money. What to do? We offer alternative transportation to get the boys to camp on Friday night. They miss some, but not all of the camp. (Our Outpost leaves Thursday and comes home on Sunday.) God Bless you all in your Ranger events. Bob Triphahn So.Mo. District > We had our Sectional Ranger Kids Day Camp last weekend, the turnout was > far less than the potential.
