The thing which surprised me was the lack of road kill. I've seen more in
the Scottish Highlands. I expected to be driving over dead bodies for at
least 30% of the time. I think the most of any one type of animal that we
saw was deer. I think I saw one mountain lion as we passed over the great
divide. Although that was not a disappointment, the fact that we saw very
few live animals, as well, was. We saw some deer and squirrel at the Grand
Canyon, some caribou (?) and possums in the rockies but the most exciting
thing we saw was the coyote on the street near your house! MInd you if the
lady at Pomeroy House succeeds in introducing the hedgehog and they follow
their English habits...... (Hedgehog baked in clay is supposed to be very
good - remove the clay and it gets rid of the spines and the fleas <g>).
