I dont have anything on canoeing but what I am planning for my trailblazers and
above. We are working on a kayak adventure. We are looking at starting with
MAKING our own kayaks. We have the plans for the forms and the kayaks. You
can get the information fron the Libuary. The book we are using is Canoes and
Kayaks for the back yard builder. by Skip Snaith. It is a very good book.
There is a magizine I think is called canoes and kayaks that has all sorts of
articles on canoe and kayak trips. After building the kayak the boys have to
complete the City Kayak safety course here in town with their kayak. It is
going to be in the city pool so they can learn the basics on turning the kayak
over and getting out under the water in the safety of the city pool. All the
commanders are going to do the same course along with the sea kayak course
given by the Marina. Then us commanders are going to go down the river months
ahead of time a section at a time so that we know what we are looking at.
Where we are going to camp ect.. The last part of our trip is going to be when
we exit the river and head into Puget Sound and cross it to our home island of
Whidbey Island landing on the shore of one of the bays or even the Naval base
all dependent on the currents. We are praying that this is going to be a safe
and fun trip for all. Part of the trip we are even going to be doing some
salmon fishing along the way. To all the commanders it looks like a blast.
Will update as things come along.
