Greetings All,
I had just wanted to share about our Christmas Parade activity today. We
had a beautiful day for a parade it was a whopping 65 degrees here in our
beautiful little tiny corner of the world known as Dumfries Virginia. All 3
of my Commanders and 4 of my boys were able to participate today, in our
first ever Christmas parade. I pretty much knew what to expect as I had
marched previously with my Section for the past three years in a much larger
parade, but our boys were the crowning gem that represented us before our
community today. We had a float with a nativity scene on it and our
Missionettes were right behind us. Our boys learned a valuable lesson in
teamwork today, and patrol spirit. They demonstrated an ability to do well
and work together as they even stayed in step for the most part. Right down
to my Buckaroo. We really hadn't had an opportunity to do much as far as
practicing goes, but for a military community, we looked very good not just
for the camera but for the cable company too. We were broadcasted live on
the local cable channels.
In all of this, we have to stop and take the time to give it all to the
Glory of God because we were not out there for ourselves. The boys really
wanted to be somewhere else, but God moved on them in their hearts. We had
our share of glitches and hitches during the parade but who wouldn't on their
first time out? Now we know where we need to improve for next year. I'll
probably be the one to head it up for next year by nature of my being the
most experienced old pro at it.
We were there with the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Brownies and
all of the locals ranging from the Police to horse troops, Fire trucks, Tow
trucks, and just all out community participation. There were the local NROTC
groups, Sheriffs and units from Quantico Marine Corps Base. Out of the whole
thing there was only one other church though. Apparently, there had been one
other church in the parade for a while and at the end we had the opportunity
to share testimonies with them and that was the Triangle Baptist Church.
They told us about how glad and thankful they were to see another local
church step up and join the parade and to see someone actually carrying the
Christian Flag down Main Street. We were not the Only Rangers in the Parade,
there were the Park Rangers also involved as we are located next to a large
National Park, the Prince William National Forest Park. This Park is known
for it's orienteering course that was set up by the Park Rangers for scouting
type of groups. But in all of this, God is always so good. It's important
to give God the Glory as the day is about Him and what he did for us. We
celebrate His arrival, but lest we forget, Easter is still the most important
holiday.
