Last night (WED) I had a very wonderful surprise. A boy who had not been at
one of our Outpost meetings in over two years came back. What made it so
special for me was this. Two years ago we were struggling in our outpost.
The Trailblazer commander had just resigned. The Pioneers were struggling
and very inactive. Buckaroos were doing fair. The Straight Arrows had the
best class at the time. I tried to recruit a new Trailblazer commander for
about a month but no success. So instead of dropping the class I decided to
take it and also continue to be Sr Commander as well. Then in Nov 97 I had a
personal crisis in which because of it I gave up the Trailblazers and took
two months off to decide if I was going to stay in Rangers. The boy in
question was in my Trailblazer class and had been coming with a grandmother.
Well, he quit coming and I did not see him for two years. He was 12 years old
at the time and going through a troublesome time according to his mother.
I started receiving Rangernet mail and all the encouragement that many of
you gave me. I decided after the two months to stay on as Sr Commander only.
This was the best decision I could have made as I have been able to do a
better job of leading, recruiting, promoting, etc. This past year our
Trailblazers were started back with three commanders and all the groups are
doing quite well with very good commanders.
Well, the good news. The boy who quit two years ago came back last night.
I was so glad to see him. He had started with us 6 years ago as a Buckaroo.
Over past two years I had thought of him often. Mainly that I had let him
down. But God is sooo good. He will restore what the enemy has taken if we
remain faithful to Him. Brothers pray for this boy that he also will let God
work in his life again. His name is Josh. Thanks
James Styles, Sr Commander
