Many Commanders have trouble with their boys advancing in Royal Rangers.. Adults stand and question the group, give a "pep talk" and wait... *if silence is the result... *if the boys respond with "I don't know Commander.." If the boys seem to "space out"..... You have a "Classic" problem with Communication.. Try This: Begin group conversations with: 1. "Safe Harbor"- *explain in your own words, what Christ meant when he said that except we come as children... we should not see the kingdom of God.. Tell them you want them to feel important, that you have time to listen, and no one has the right to insult, mock the thoughts they will express in this outpost meeting. Jesus "prefered" that we all come to him as a child.. so the "Boys" are prime right-now! *Like a shepherd guards the flock.. We should guard our fellowship...and build trust. 2. *Being a good Leader- will inspire "followers"- Is "living by the Ranger Code" a good rule for leaders to follow? Maybe even appointed leaders make mistakes.. how can we "follow" and enjoy ourselves? How can we learn from mistakes? (*Forgiveness- *Mercy?) How does wearing a complete uniform inspire confidence? How does bringing your handbook and your thoughts, make the Outpost better? How can we allways be "Ready for anything?" 3. Reflection time- When we all say something.. give time to the others to "echo back" what was said.. asking thoughtful questions and noting shortcomings but progressing forward to a goal or "mark" Tool- "WHAT-IF" each Ranger would stand before a "board" at each advancement level to back what he understood in his role in the Outpost? What if he was praised for successes and challenged in other areas to improve? What if "Leaders" watched close each of the Ranger boys and "reviewed" them one on one from time to time? What if we greeted each Ranger by "name" and smiled! Would understanding improve? would advancement become real? would it "shake a tree" to harvest some fruit? *Would everyone involved begin to "know" the heart of each boy and leader so that we would grow in Love?
