Wow!!! All I can say is that God is soooo Awesome!! I got responses from
all over the nation and the world from people who are praying for Mark and I,
as we go through this struggle in our lives... you all must pray very well,
as this evening
(around 8:30pm CT) Mark arrived back at home... he still has a long way to go
in recovery... he still needs help in getting around, changing clothing and
the dressing on the surgery incision site, and doing many things that in the
past were normal everyday things that we never really thought twice about
(like putting on shoes for example)... but Thanks to our awesome God, Mark at
least gets to sleep in his own bed in his own house tonight.... it's so good
to have him home, after being without him for several nights. Even our 7
ferrets are happy that he is home... Pepe loaded Mark's forhead with kisses
when Mark held him... such a blessing to see the smile on Mark's face!!
Please continue praying for us... Starting tomorrow, we will be having a
homebound physical therapist coming in to work with Mark, and help him build
up his strength and muscles in his arms and his good leg, and in coordination
in being able to go up and down stairs with the crutches, being able to get
in and out of the shower (btw, to my brother Freddie, your old shower chair
from when you had Guillian Barre Syndrome is going to get some good use
again! Mom and Dad are gonna bring it over for Mark). Tonight, Mark is
pretty exhausted from just trying to get from the car to the bed, as he had
to manuver a whole flight of stairs to get to our bedroom with his
crutches.... thank goodness we have an attached garage, and he didn't have to
try to cross the slippery ice that currently is pl My battle is just
begining too, as I deal with the insurance companies, the health care people,
bill collectors, and seeking compensation for lost wages... it looks like
Mark will be off work for at least 4 weeks, and I may have to take a few
weeks off myself in the begining, so that I can take care of Mark without
exhausting myself to dangerous lengths, which my normal work schedule has a
tendency to do even when there isn't a crisis such as this to also try to
manage. I have already talked with a lawyer and got some good advice about
how to document everything, should the insurance companies involved be
unwilling to compensate for the lost wages and the permenant changes to
Mark's body, as he will now have a metal titanium rod in his right femur for
the rest of his life (which may set off metal detectors if Mark ever goes
through at the airports, etc)... Mark's car was declared as being totaled
this morning... because of it's age, we may not get much for it, and we would
still need to eventually find Mark another vehicle when he's ready to drive
again... tomorrow, I also have my work cut out for me, as my father and I
will need to drive to Aurora, IL to get the remainder of Mark's personal
belongings from his car (that's where the insurance company's closest claims
assesment office was in relation to where the accident took place)... Aurora
is a good 2 hours from our house... we will also try to get pictures of the
vehicle as part of the documentation as well as to allow Mark to see what the
extent of the damages were (he was taken out of his car on a bodyboard with
his neck imobilized, so he couldn't really see how bad it was). Anyway, I
am begining to feel the stresses and the lack of sleep catching up with me,
and there is still a long road ahead yet, so please keep us in your prayers
that Mark will heal well and that the Lord will provide for our financial
needs through this crisis... I have been very touched and blessed to receive
some wonderful e-mails and phone calls from many people who care about us...
it brings such a peace to know that there are people who love and care about
us and are so willing to help wherever they can. That means sooo much to
Mark and I !!!!!!
Thank-you soooo much for your prayers! I will endevor to keep you all
updated as best I can on Mark's progress, and to correspond on his behalf
until he is well enough to sit at his computer and type out his own
e-mails... I know that it has really cheered Mark up to hear from all of the
people who care so much about him, and for that very reason, I am willing to
do this to help him keep in good spirits... Those of you who know Mark really
well know that he's a guy with a sense of humor... already, that humor has
come into play in helping Mark and I to get through this one day at a time...
my father has also been a real blessing in the humor department, as Dad is so
talented in using humor to help keep people cheery.
Thanks again... I will write again soon
Sincerely,
Karen Matus (Mark's wife)
