Different boys show various intrest in nature study on a Campout.. *What generaly passes for sport is playing in the fire with a stick! *Toolcraft is going wacky with a splitting maul... But last spring.. I watched Cdr.Jennifer share Nature with the boys.. The *way she described the "event"- We would be visiting a series of "homes and habitat" and we would begin to *un-lock great understanding of our surroundings... like a blindfolded man seeing again... To "see" we had to become Nature detectives... and snoop! The Northwest is very different.. it's a cold and silent forest.. (*much like several churches<G>) And the reason is that to remain *stealth like is to remain alive! That's the reason animals don't come out to Ranger campouts.. they'd be poked with sticks and burned in the fire! Did the boy's earn the merit? Get the pin? KNOLEDGE RULES! CARPE DIEM- seeze the day! *Who cares! Cdr.Jen had them on their knees looking under rocks.. checking bugs in tree bark... collecting samples and compareing plants to charts... And with each boy what was before "just a tree" became a "Vine Maple" or a "Douglas Fir" or a "Western Red Cedar" *Sometimes we decide our lives just like the boys<G> Guess what! Youv'e got something good to say.. and I want to hear it<G> -=A=- _______ To unsubscribe, send "unsubscribe rangernet" to [EMAIL PROTECTED] "Eat the hay & spit out the sticks! - A#1's mule" RTKB&G4JC! http://rangernet.org Autoresponder: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
