*(The following interview was conducted with a Wilderness member of the
Frontiersman Camping Fellowship of Royal Rangers of America. FCF has a
"primitive element" that sometimes confuses the gereral public so this
exercise was
devised to bring insight into the nature of these *colorful
characters..)
There will be a question- "Q?" followed by raw transcript, and a brief
outline of the transcript marked by" A!"
========================================================================
Q? *I understand you have been a member of FCF so some time.. what can
you tell us about it?
Welp.. I reckon so if'n yah gort tah know..Hehee This her'Outfit's been
up and runn'n fer a longspell
since nigh on to '66 Had it's up and downs but allway came up shine'n!
A! What the FCF member means to say is: The Mission is multi-phased and
critical to the development
of the whole boy, since the formation in the Summer of 1966
Q? Camping is in the name, can you share what style of camping? Low
impact?
WHOOwee now there's a concept'.. We all bring IRON 'shoot'n Iron..Iron
fer cook'n and
big 'ole DutchOvens fer cobbler... Pack'n all that gear, cavas tents and
poles seems to put a strain on my
giddy-up go! Haf da time it sempt' it gort up and went.. but come Trace
I'll be thar sure or bust a cinch try'n!
A! What the FCF member means is that the goal is to allways tread
lightly and leave no trace... Take pictures
and leave only footprints. Ecology is important to all FCF members and
they make it an Iron clad rule.
Q? I see FCF in many different forms of attire.. can you tell us about
that?
Waz tha matter pilgrim.. yah getting all fussy obber these here
Buckskins o'mine... Why they's
only 'bout 3-4years old and seen plenny..shine'n times....they's made of
brain taned Elk shot by smokepole!
Or yea gaze'n at my CoonHat in wonderment?
A! What the FCF member really means is that many take pride in the
development primitive lifestyles and
garments as worn before the advent of proper dry cleaning and leather
treatment. The head gear is unique
and individualistic.
Q? I see there are steps a person must pass to gain membership, can you
tell us of the "Phase 1 and Phase 2"
events?
Yupperz! Them's mighty fine times..yezsirree! First we set tests that
you might reflect on yur qualities and
know'n in yur knower...stand yah up and give you a look'see and then if
yah make the grade we invite yah back fer
a whaoo time at the frontier adventure held somewhere remote... My crew
might put yah in trapper brigade and
lead you differn' classes in the trades and instruct you in smokepole
safety and such...We ebben feed yah a dose of
cook'n and ten git around the fire for a time of praise and worship..
'clang de'Banjo!
A! What the FCF member means to say is that the events are planned.
Regional differences exist, and are subject to
change. ..bring earplugs.
Q? What's one of the adventures that you remember with glee?
Well..sir, I 'member bust'n across the Rockies east with the youngbuck
and "Skeeter to the big rondy at Eagle Rock
'bout '96 or so.. had a bang up time though 'ole Buzzteeth skinned me
good on a ride to the swimm'n hole.. met all
sort of fellez.. even a Larrikan tho he didn't know me from adam<G> On
the way back had some run-in with a
Nebraskee tree snake and a interest'n time in the tipi on the lawn of
Cabela wait'n to gaze at somkepole stuff..
seemes we set up camp on a "spring"... Oh it was good times! Then there
was the time...
A! What the FCF member means to say is that many events are availible
for attendence, and one should be ready
for anything, includeing sprinkler systems.
Q? What in closeing do want people to know about FCF?
Welp.. all kidd'n aside, I think it to be a beautiful life...and
shareing it with the youngbucks makes sence.
Yah kin dress up and whoop and haollar all yah want.. but if the light
of Jesus don't shine you got nutt'n at tall
and no claim... this here Outfit has Youngbuck members and Old Timers
sure...but at the heart is Jesus
and the mission is winnin boys fer Christ! I love it!
A! What the FCF member means to say is that the mission of FCF is to
"give and serve" the Royal Ranger ministry
a group of people committed to reach, teach and keep boys and girls
for Christ!
