I had a chance to speak with Nat. Cmdr. Mariott this last weekend.
Having talked w/ him & hearing his heart for RR I am more satisfied than
ever that his purposes for RR & the changes he is overseeing will bring
about positive changes for the program. I am also convinced that God is
in this! Cmdr. Mariott told of several instances in which obstacles to
what needed to get done for these changes simply fell, some even
becoming aids. GPH committees which normally take months to act on
things gave approvals in hours, even minutes. (I've worked at GPH; I
have experienced the environment there & THAT impressed me!)
I'm not one to like changes much so I know that I'll be uncomfortable w/
anything until I get accustomed to it nonetheless I am excited to do
what I can to improve how we go about reaching, teaching & KEEPING boy
(& men) for Jesus the Christ.
Cmdr. Mariott said he wants to help the small church have a RR program.
As the program stands now, it is overwhelming to those churches. He
stated, "46% of A/G churches have NO Royal Rangers." Of those, 88% have
less than 200 attendance. Cmdr. Mariott wants to put RR w/in reach of
those churches.
To do that changes need be made in how the program is organized, how
advancements are handled & in putting leader training more w/in reach of
men. Cmdr. Mariott says that w/o LTC 90% of leaders leave RR w/in the
1st year. W/ turnover like that it doesn't take long to run out of men.
Cmdr. Mariott informed us that the projected release date for materials
for the new program is currently March of 2002 w/ a suggested start date
w/in local outposts in September of that year. The revamp is still a
work in progress w/ various details still subject to change but this is
how it looks at present.
For those of you who have seen Cmdr. Mariott's PowerPoint presentation,
he says it will be available on CD-ROM to your various districts for
training purposes, hopefully by next month. He also says the RR website
is being worked on even now to provide info as well. That hopefully will
be on-line soon.
I can give more details if you all want.
Again, I see God's hand in this thing. Cmdr. Mariott's heart is to
reach, teach & keep EVERY boy in America. By himself he can't do it but
thru the dedicated (& expanding) network of RR leaders & boys God can do
miracles!
