Thanks for the reference to "bsasebase" maybe I could use this as a toll to get some people in our outpost and church motivated.
I have known about Florida Sea Base from when I was an Assistant Scout Master. I was impresed about what I read about it then.
What would it take to get non Scout groups to this place? I know the Camp Ranger at a nearby Scout camp, my brother fixes the vehicles in their fleet. I have asked him if we can use the camp and he tells me that I need to go to his council to ask. It seems that going to the Boy Scout camps is possible but requires a lot of red tape.
I was on a trip with Timberlee Christian camp in East Troy Wisconsin in 1984 on a sailing adventure in the Apostle Islands off the south shore of Lake Superior in Wisconsin. This trip was offered through Ft. Wilderness Christian Ministries (where I later served on staff) and was open to adults.
We had a week of very memorable moments.
We didn't have to take joy baths we had a shower in the head but if we didn't want to shower in the head the alternative was to dive into the frigid waters of Lake Superior and freeze the germs off. I did and lasted as long as two minutes until I decided enough is enough and came back on board. Its a good way to wake up in the morning before Bible Study.
What was an interesting situation was when we were anchored off an island and the captian called all hands on deck in the middle of the night to pull the anchor, we were drifting in.
I also loved a daily diet of white fish.
The captain of that ship has had it in dry dock for several years now so the adventure is no longer available.
I know it can be expensive but couldn't Royal Rangers get a similar thing going? I'm not a sailor, I couldn't afford a boat but maybe somebody out there may be the person to get a ministry going.
