About 10 years ago we had a family holiday in France (Europe). To
our surprise most of the public toilet facilities were mixed. It certainly
didn't bother me (all facilites were suitably screened) and, after
some reflection, my wife said that she thought it was a better system
as there was less chance of any perverts hanging around.
