*Outrageous as it may seam- 15,000 Boy Scouts met in a 900 acre state park in Oregon for SCOUTRAGEOUS 2000! ..and for this Royal Ranger it was an Eye-Opening event! It wasn't the activities, for they were in the grasp of Rangers and the excellent Pow-wow's we hold.. that was familiar! It wasn't the Organization, as it's expected that Scouts would have better resources to facilitate an event this size... It wasn't the Leaders, because many times I saw my "brother's" hobbleing along in a simular uniform and acting the same as a Ranger Commander<G> *Even the boys seemed "familiar" to this Royal Ranger- the horse play, the sounds in the day and in the night.... What was different was the feeling of "Community" and of "Respect". I saw all segments of the city and region I live in represented, and acting togather on their best behavior. Men and Women in uniform recieved respect and inclusion in the mission of building *Character.... Rev.Luies Palu was the featured speaker the first night, and he gave a rousing endorcement of Scouting for it's 90 years of steadfast values. Duty to GOD! Duty to COUNTRY! Duty to help others and your self! *A 72 year old Scouter who has attended every National Camp availible and every World camp started the fire with a bow and drill.. and handed the flame to scoutings youngest "Tenderfoot" to share the spirit of Scouting... with the 15,000 in attendence. This snowy Scout was not the only SENIOR in attendence! Scouting ,better than Rangers has been able to hold on to people as they pass the torch to others... and the result is a cadre of memories and youthfull inspiration that Scoutings trail will never end! The "Chief Executive Scout" was on hand to speak.. Few knew his name or his voice, for he was not imporatant in himself. He shared a "message" 70 years old from the founder BP, to remember the basis of scouting is the Law and Oath. *In closeing- How would our RRanger Program/Ministry become changed if we became the Community that Scouts represents?
